Holiday Greetings from Cross Creek Farm

At daybreak in dawn's light
With whickers and whinnies and sqeals of delight
The critters and people all greeted this sight:
Farm buildings and pastures all covered in white!
Inside was all cozy, and warmly good-willed
Soon tummies with goodies were happily filled
Then outside to frolic and snort and to play
We wish you the same on this glorious day!

Honey Harvest on Grandfather Mountain

Grandfather Mountain is buzzing!
This month marked the first honey harvest on Grandfather Mountain. Fifteen months ago Grandfather Mountain started raising its own honey bees. The venture originated because Grandfather President Crae Morton and Trails Manager Luke Appling were both keenly interested in the behavior of bees, and because the company is committed to a healthy environment. The Mountain's two hives produced enough of the golden deliciousness this summer for the team to draw off a little over two gallons of the sweet treat for the staff to enjoy. For more details about the project and how honey is harvested visit:

The popular, family friendly play traces the Cherokee people over a period of several hundred years, through the zenith of their power, through the heartbreak of the Trail of Tears and finally ending in the present day where Cherokee people, much like the new script that was unveiled in 2008, continue to rewrite their place in the world. The story comes to life with live music, ritual dance and authentic Cherokee costumes in the 2,100-seat mountainside amphitheater under the stars. http://www.cherokee-nc.com
